On a weekend I received a mail from one of my old friend who was struggling with his health and putting on so much weight as he was working in a corporate world and therefore he has to sit for long hour on chair to do his projects which he get in his office. I remembered the golden school days when both of us were fit as one can imagine, played all kind of sports like football, volleyball etc.

Later on he went to work in corporate world and I became a health coach to help people with their struggles to achieve good health. In my perspective health in not visiting doctor on regular basis and taking up pills on regular basis to be able to live properly, in fact health is keeping yourself so fit that you don’t need such pills and you feel energetic throughout the day regardless the type of job or business you are into. Good health can be maintained by consuming the healthy food and avoiding the drinks or food which degrade our health. So the diet plays an important role on how healthy you are and you don’t fall sick easily.

Some study refers that in today’s world approximately 70 % of adult Indians are suffering from type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. These problems contribute to heart stroke and loss of eye sight in a period of a few years. So these problems are the foundation stones of major diseases.

The word diet first appeared in English in the 13th century. Its original meaning was the same as in modern English, “habitually taken food and drink.” But diet was used in another sense too in the Middle and early modern English periods to mean “way of living.” This is, in fact, the original meaning of diet’s Greek ancestor diaita, which is derived from the verb diaitasthan, meaning “to lead one’s life.” In Greek, diaita, had already come to be used more specifically for a way of living prescribed by a physician, a diet, or other regimen.

So diet refers to the way of life/lifestyle which one should follow to keep himself healthy and fine so that he can live a good life. A diet can be followed without much effort by following a certain set of rules as what food to consume and at what time it should be consumed and what food is not to be consumed. Various researches suggest  that diet is up to 90% important and only 10% exercise play the vital role.

The art lies in getting the right amount of these the components as per your body type.

The carbohydrates: They give you energy you need to make your body function well. But keep in mind that excess of carbohydrates has negative effects on your health and you how lack of energy throughout the day. Vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, onion, capsicum, tomato, bell and pepper can be consumed in right amount to provide body enough of carbohydrates.

Proteins: These are the building blocks and you need them to make your muscles function well. Proteins can be obtained from vegan sources such as chickpeas, mushrooms, rajma, paneer and meat sources include such as fish, mutton, chicken, beef  etc.

Fats: There is a myth in Indian society that you should never consume fat especially in adult age. But the truth is exactly opposite as your body need some fats and they are the source of instant energy and your body need fresh fats into body in order to break down the excess of fat in body.

The fasting between the meals is very important as you need to put your body into fat burning mode. This is the time when you put the body in repair mode as it helps body to repair itself. Another thing to keep in mind is to avoid excess of carbohydrates such as wheat flour and corn flour. People in India use these two things in excess therefore majority of people are carrying excess fat in body.

Stick to the regime for a few weeks so that you can take the next step. Next step would be to jog from 30 minutes to 1 hour.
